The term "Merkaba" comes from Hebrew and means chariot or vehicle. In ancient Egyptian interpretation, the word is phonetically broken down into three parts - "Mer" meaning light, "Ka" meaning spirit, and "Ba" meaning body. This represents the connection between spirit, body, and light, signifying the soul's ascension process.

The merkaba shape consists of two intersecting tetrahedra - one pointing upwards and the other pointing downwards.
